Our Own Little Sea World

manatee slides & duck slides

How lucky are we to live in Broadwater!  On Sunday July 25th I was in the right place at the right time for a very special event.  I had seen a couple of manatee in our canal most of the day and took a walk down the sea wall to get a closer look. Mom & Pup Manatee I observed one manatee rolling over and over as a second manatee seemed to be standing guard.  Much to my surprise a 3’ long baby manatee came out of nowhere.  I realized I had just witnessed the birth of a manatee.  I rushed to the house to get my cameras and my family.  My wife Dana snapped pictures as I videotaped the touching first moments of baby and mother bonding.  We watched in awe as we witnessed something you can’t even see at Sea World!  We also witnessed a mother duck and her 6 fairly new ducklings in the canal the same day.  We have not seen the baby manatee lately but the ducks visit often and we are able to watch the ducklings grow. We are truly fortunate to live in such a great place and be able to observe some of nature’s finest moments...submitted by Tom Ando.
